Medicinal Mushrooms 101

October 12, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am

At The Alchemist’s Kitchen in Stockton Market

The use of medicinal mushrooms can be found throughout different cultures, dating back many centuries. These fungi have been traditionally used for many purposes, including their balancing effect on the immune system, and their antitumor and antioxidant activity.

In this class we will discuss the common actions that are shared among medicinal mushrooms. We will also talk about the unique characteristics of my favorite mushrooms to use, including reishi, maitake, shiitake, turkey tail and chaga. In addition, we will go over how to source these mushrooms and make medicine from them.

Individuals will get to take home a handout that includes several recipes.

Kathryn Moxham

My mission is to reconnect people with plants for optimum health and balance through herbal consultations, custom blends, and classes/workshops because plants and people are made for each other.

I am the founder of Cultivating Roots LLC, a small-scale herb farm and apothecary based out of Bucks County, PA and Titusville, NJ. Most recently, I formed an Herbalists Without Borders chapter in Mercer County, NJ because I believe health and wellness is our birthright, and everyone deserves equal access.

I have a Bachelor of Sciences degree in biology, and have spent the last several years working and studying with different herbalists. I finished the two-year clinical herbalist training program at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, where I am currently taking a Therapeutics program. In addition, I am working with Andrew Appello of Healthy Living Acupuncture in Princeton, NJ to become a registered herbalist of the American Herbalist Guild. I will always be a student, and will forever be in awe of the plants.
