Oldwick Soup Wins Three Prizes at 11th Annual Hunterdon County Rotary Soup Cook-Off!

Thai Curried Coconut Carrot Soup

There were more than 600 people in attendance at the 11th Annual Hunterdon County Rotary Soup Cook-Offand and the event raised more than $10,000, every dollar of which will be donated directly to the six food pantries in Hunterdon County.

Robert Hiller from Oldwick Soup, said, “We chose Thai Coconut Curried Carrot Soup because while at The Culinary Institute of America, a simple classic Gingered Carrot Soup that I had made in an American Regional Cuisine had impressed me and was a catalyst that actually got me interested in specializing in soups. It is that recipe that had inspired me recently to create an offshoot of that flavor, after much testing. I added coconut milk as the base for the carrots, curry as the main flavor and other spices and herbs that makes this soup like no other! It is an incredible silky, smooth soup that is our best seller at The Stockton Market, another local supermarket where we sell our products, and the best mover on our online business,

This was a great event and we will certainly participate again next year. We believe in the Rotary’s cause of community awareness of hunger in Hunterdon County, one of the wealthiest counties in the US, and the support of various food pantries are helped in that endeavor. Community outreach and assisting those in need is what The Oldwick Soup Company and “Love the Soup!” is all about!”

Every year, in organizing the Rotary strives to live up to Rotary’s Four-Way Test:

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

With those tests in mind, the judging of the event is accomplished in two primary ways. Firstly, the hundreds of people who attend vote individually (many of whom are partial to their local restaurant), and they award the People’s Choice Trophy. And secondly, an impartial panel of objective judges, the five Rotary Club Presidents, do their best to use no favoritism, and they award the Judge’s Choice Trophy.
