Stockton Market Wins Garden State Culinary Award For Best Market

On Sunday, April 29th, chefs, farmers, brewers, winemakers, food writers, managers of markets and patrons of the culinary arts gathered for the first Garden State Culinary Arts Award in Holmdel, NJ. The Stockton Market was honored to win Best Market, an award given to “established, independently owned retail food markets in New Jersey that demonstrate a high level of quality in goods offered, service to its customers, and devotion to its community.”

The Stockton Market is a year-round indoor artisanal and community market in the picturesque river town of Stockton, New Jersey that offers eat-in gourmet food stands, farm-fresh produce, baked goods, coffee, and more. Over the past year, the market has been fortunate enough to have many of its vendors nominated and selected for awards honoring their dedication to their respective crafts.

Opening on Friday’s for lunch, The Stockton Market delivers crave-worthy meals to kick-start the weekend and serves as a much-needed gathering spot for locals when it transforms into a hub for live music, good food, and BYOB drinks in the evening. At 8:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday, breakfast is served in the Market Café from Urbane Tea and Coffee, Sweet Melissa’s Patisseries, and Toast, where patrons can indulge in a wide variety of tasty delights from freshly baked pastries to made-to-order sandwiches, quiches, and salads.

In September of 2017, Gary Snyder, a New York gallerist and local resident took over the management of the market and contributed Galerie Stockton, a unique gallery focusing on modern American art on paper. For its first exhibition, Galerie Stockton is presenting works on paper from the 1930s through the 1950s by New Hope Modernist Joseph Meierhans.

The award for Best Market serves as a representation of the exceptional attention to detail and true passion of each individual vendor, but the honor is shared with its patrons who travel from far and wide to visit and support the market; great food and unique goods are the foundation of the Stockton Market, but its community is the heart and soul that makes it a truly special place to visit.
